“Palm Sunday” The palm branch, or palm frond, symbolizes victory, triumph, peace, and eternal life in the ancient Near East and Mediterranean world. Palm branches represent the triumphant entry of Jesus into Jerusalem. All four Gospels contain the account of this momentous entrance of Jesus ( Matthew 21:1-11; Mark 11:1-11; Luke 19: 28-34; and John 12: 12-15). The Palm trees symbolize abundance, eternal life, fertility, good luck, growth, longevity, righteousness, victory, and wisdom. Palm trees also have religious significance and symbolic value in Christianity, Judaism, and Islam. Palm Sunday has been recognized as the start of Jesus’s journey to the cross.
