We know what failure is like, but God doesn’t. There was no failure when Jesus walked the earth as God in His Son Jesus. We all have a sense of a God-given call in our lives. We perceive within ourselves a divine mission. Many start their journey on the road to the cross. We sincerely desire to achieve all the things God has promised us. But we never seem to arrive. Like the Israelites leaving Egypt, they seem to take forever to cross the desert—one battle after another. The Promise Land never seems to come. God’s word mentions five reasons for failure like this. They are the five things that kept the generation that left Egypt in the wilderness for forty years. They are the same five things that all believers should watch out against today (God changes, not). They are the five deadly sins that satan has used so effectively in hindering the promises of God for believers from coming to pass on their journey. God, in His mercy, has not left us in the dark. He has revealed clearly in His word what we should all watch out against. Read God’s counsel found in (1 Corinthians 12: 1-12) Those five deadly sins are Lust, Idolatry, Sexual immorality, Tempting the Lord, Murmuring, and complaining.
