First, we need to understand the meaning of wisdom according to the bible. “Wisdom is the ability to {discern or judge} what is true, right, or lasting.” Knowledge is {information} gained through experience, reasoning, or acquaintance. “Knowing can exist without wisdom. But not the other way around. You can be knowledgeable without being wise. Knowledge is knowing how to use a gun; wisdom knows when to use it and when to keep it hoisted. God wants us to have knowledge of Him and what He expects of us. The book of Proverbs is perhaps the best place in the bible to learn biblical wisdom. Experience might be one of the most valuable ways to acquire wisdom. Wisdom begins and ends with the fear of the Lord. It isn’t a fear of being struck by lightning or struck dead, but deep, abiding, holy reverence and respect for the Lord and His Word, the Bible (Proverbs 9: 10).
How to get wisdom {fear God} Proverbs 9:10. {desire wisdom} Proverbs 2:4. {pray for wisdom} James 1: 5. {study God’s word] Psalm 19:7.
What an enlightening definition for “Fear of the Lord”: Deep, abiding, holy reverence and respect for the Lord and His Word, the Bible. I love this! For so long the term “Fear of the Lord” was used in the wrong way to intimidate people and/or control situations. And those who didn’t know better were hurt and often left the Church or turned away from God. Thank you, Lord, for those that you have in the midst to help your people! Amen!
